is swapping wheel to 17" is a good idea?

My bro is thinking about swapping the 18" front wheel on his Ducati Scrambler for a 17" one.

I'm helping him out. I believe it should be straightforward, mainly affecting the speedometer reading.

his main reason for the change is the limited tire options available for the 18" wheel, bcs my bro want to fit more road focused tires like Diablo Rossos or M7RRs to make his bike feel racier.

Has anyone else done this conversion, and are there going to be problems besides the speedometer and possibly the mudguard fitment?

The 17 swap should work well for getting better tire options like Diablo Rossos. Just keep an eye on changes in handling, mudguard fit, and brake rotor compatibility. The speedometer might be the biggest issue, but other than that, it seems like a good upgrade.

Yup, very much doable, people swap to 17s all the time for better tire selection and sharper handling. But tell your bro not to assume it's just a drop in job cos besides the speedo and fender, he needs to check fork clearance, axle spacing, brake rotor alignment, and possibly even the ABS ring fit.

don't forget, it's gonna be lower tot he ground, so it will handle differently, pointy but also twitchy at higher speeds. You could compensate a bit with the suspension tweaking, but it's not gonna feel like with the 18s for sure
